An Interview with Rick Desautel, the man who fought for Reinstating Tribal Hunting Rights in Canada
A decade ago, Rick hunted without a license in British Columbia land where he was charged. He brought the case to court where he won the Supreme Court of Canada ruling that Indigenous First Nations are allowed to hunt on their land regardless of citizenship or residency.
Allan Bonner interviews Rick Desautel, one of around thousands of Sinixt Nation members who live on the Colville Reservation in northeastern Washington, USA. Yet in Canada, the Sinixt Nation has been deemed “extinct” for many decades. Rick is a hunter for the Colville Confederate Tribes where he fought for not only reinstating their tribal hunting rights in Canada, but reinstated the recognition of the Nation in Canada.
