A Look at a 1906 Tomah Joseph Basket

Tomah Joseph is an important historic elder in Passamaquoddy and Indigenous History as he was elected Governor for the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Peter Dana Point (Motahkomikuk) and was a mentor to 32nd President of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt.

He was a renowned craftsman, fishing expert and guide.

Natalie, an anthropologist, also a great (4x) granddaughter to Tomah Joseph, talks to us about this very basket made by Tomah Joseph in 1906. She talks about the make of the basket and its purpose to the Nation.
