Madonna Soctomah, a Passamaquoddy elder, politician is one of few Passamaquoddy citizens who speak the language. She discusses with us the Indigenous traditional art of basket weaving, the process of which uses ash wood and sweetgrass. Madonna talks about the evolution of basketweaving from utility baskets to the making of more intricate and decorative pieces due to changing demands and influence of tourism.
